Margaret Taylor Smith graduated from Forney High School in 1949 as class valedictorian. While in school, Mrs. Smith played basketball and tennis, was on the newspaper staff and the newspaper editor. She was a member of the Forney High School pep squad and was voted the junior class favorite. She continued her education at Baylor University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree, Cum Laude, in 1952 and earned her Master’s Degree at Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas.
Mrs. Smith was a teacher in Forney Independent School District from 1952 to 1976 when she joined the staff of the Dean Learning Center in Dallas, Texas as the Associate Director of Teacher Training. She remained in that position until 1982 when she joined with her associate, Edith Hogan, to form EDMAR Educational Associates, Inc. For the past 26 years, Mrs. Smith, through EDMAR Educational Associates, has developed educational programs for both students and teachers that are used across the globe. She has dedicated herself to helping every student learn in creative and proven ways regardless of their abilities and/or disabilities.
Margaret Taylor Smith was inducted into the Forney High School Hall of Honor in 1998 and received the Distinguished Alumna Award. In addition, she has been honored with the Outstanding Educator award from the Dallas Branch of the International Dyslexia and the Aylett Royall Cox Outstanding Educator Award from the Academic Language Therapy Association.
